Towerborne Brings Co-Op Combat and Customization to New Height

Towerborne, the latest title from Stoic Studio creators of the acclaimed Banner Saga trilogy has officially launched on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Xbox Game Pass as of April 29, 2025.

This side-scrolling action RPG blends classic beat ’em up mechanics with deep customization and cooperative gameplay, offering a fresh take on the genre.

Set in the post-apocalyptic fantasy world of the City of Numbers, Towerborne casts players as “Aces,” elite warriors tasked with reclaiming lost territories from monstrous threats.

The game features a vibrant, ever-evolving world map that expands as missions are completed, providing a dynamic and engaging experience.

Players can choose from four distinct combat styles:

  • Sentinel: who uses a sword and shield for balanced offense and defense.
  • Pyroclast, who wields a heavy maul for devastating strikes.
  • Rockbreaker, who uses massive gauntlets for close-quarters combat.
  • Shadowstriker, who employs swift dual daggers for agile attacks.

Each class offers unique abilities and playstyles, allowing for strategic team compositions and personalized builds.

The recent “Class Mastery” update introduces a comprehensive progression system, enabling players to earn and reallocate skill points to unlock new abilities and refine their chosen class. This flexibility encourages experimentation and caters to a wide variety of playstyles.

Towerborne supports both local and online four player co-op, with full cross-platform play and progression across Xbox and PC. This seamless integration ensures that friends can team up regardless of their preferred platform.

Built on Unreal Engine, Towerborne boasts detailed environments and a rich color palette that brings its fantasy world to life. The game’s soundtrack, composed by Austin Wintory, complements the visuals with a soothing yet engaging musical score. Environmental hazards and interactive elements, such as acid pools and spiked walls, add depth to combat encounters, encouraging players to utilize the surroundings strategically.

Towerborne is available through Xbox Game Preview and Game Pass, with a Founders Pack option offering exclusive cosmetic items. The game is also accessible on Steam Early Access, with full cross-save support across platforms.

Whether you’re a fan of classic beat ’em ups or looking for a cooperative ARPG experience, Towerborne delivers a compelling and modernized adventure worth exploring.
